About Us
The Steel Valley Federal Credit Union, a not for profit financial cooperative, is organized and managed to provide a safe, economical, and convenient financial institution for our membership. To promote thrift and through competitive dividends for savings, and provide economical loans with competitive interest rates, and service through modern technologies.
History
1966. Chartered by the Bureau of Credit Unions as the United Steelworkers (Cleveland) Federal Credit Union to serve the members of United Steelworkers Local 185 working for J&L Steel.
1985. Amended the Charter to change the name of the sponsor from J&L Steel to LTV Steel and to allow the steelworkers of the merged Republic Steel Company to become members of the credit union.
1988. Amended the Charter to allow for the first select employee group, North Coast Container.
1990. Amended the Charter to allow for the first credit union merger, Sears Federal Credit Union. Amended the Charter to allow the merger of the U.I.U. Local 48 Credit Union. Amended the Charter to allow the merger of the Mines and Mills Federal Credit Union.
1991. Amended the Charter to allow the merger of Christian Tabernacle Evangelistic Church Credit Union. Amended the Charter to allow the merger of Cleveland Steel and Tubes Credit Union.
1992. Amended the Charter to change the name from United Steelworkers (Cleveland) Federal Credit Union to Steel Valley Federal Credit Union. Amended the Charter for the merger of Midland Steel Federal Credit Union.
1993. Amended the Charter for the Purchase and Assumption of the East Cleveland Schools Credit Union.
1994. Amended the Charter for the merger of Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Parish Federal Credit Union.
1995. Amended the Charter for the Purchase and Assumption of the Cleveland Heights Employees Credit Union.
2001. Amended the Charter for the Purchase and Assumption of the Metro Health Credit Union. Amended the Charter for the merger of Thomas Steel Credit Union.
2004. Amended the Charter to serve the Underserved for the West Side of Cleveland.
2007. Amended the Charter to serve the underserved for Greater Warren.
2008. Amended the Charter to merger the Alliance of Poles Federal Credit Union.
2009. Amended the Charter to serve the Underserved for Greater Cleveland.
2011. Amended the Charter for the merger of the Brook Park Municipal Employee’s Federal Credit Union
